Counterfeit Wooting PCBAs found in China

Ever since our breakthrough in the keyboard space, Wooting keyboards have been copied by different brands. That’s all fine. We’re here to create great products, and having people copy us only tells us we’re on the right track.

But, we’ve recently discovered that counterfeit (fake) Wooting PCBAs are being made to look like genuine Wooting products and they’re being distributed and sold on the Chinese market. They’re using our reputation and prices, pretending to sell a genuine Wooting product.

This crosses the line for us. So we’re taking action.

Wootility now recognizes counterfeit PCBAs

Starting today, Wootility will show a warning if you are using a counterfeit Wooting PCBA. Although we could block people with a fake PCBA from using Wootility, we’ve decided to still grant them access to Wootility. We do this because we don’t want to be too harsh on people that already got scammed.

We’ve also added a button to the message that people can click to let us know where they bought the counterfeit product. This way we can get insight into who is selling the fake PCBAs.

What if you see the warning in Wootility

We highly recommend contacting that reseller and tell them they are selling a counterfeit Wooting product, and that you want your money back.

Do not feel bad for those resellers. They might know very well that they are selling a counterfeit product, or they’ve been lied to as well, and can now take action themselves.

Even if you don’t get the warning message in Wootility (if you're a Chinese customer), you might still have a fake Wooting PCBA, and get the warning message at a later stage.

The only way to know for sure that your Wooting PCBA is real, is by buying it directly from us, or from an official reseller. You find a list of official resellers here: https://wooting.io/authorised-resellers

Further steps will be taken

This first step is just a small part of what we’re doing to prevent this from ever happening again, but for now, we can’t share the whole plan because that would be a huge advantage to the counterfeit party and help them circumvent the measures we’re taking.
