Installing Keycaps

If your Wooting 60HE v2 is an ISO model, it comes without keycaps pre-installed. Don't worry, installing them is simple and a great way to bond with your new keyboard.

Depending on the keycap set you have, installation can be as easy as transferring them straight from the blister tray onto your keyboard. Press each keycap down firmly so it sits snugly on the switch.

Below, you'll find a visual layout of all available ISO keycap languages for reference. Select the language of your keycaps and get started!

Pulling Keycaps

If you've messed up your keycap placement, need to pull out the PCBA, or you want to install a brand new set of keycaps, it's time to master the art of keycap pulling.

Your Wooting 60HE v2 came with a special 'keycap & switch puller', a tool that functions both as a keycap- and switch puller. Make sure to use the right side of the tool (the side that says 'keycap) and follow the instructions below.

01

Position the keycap puller

Align the puller over the keycap and push down. Make sure it *clicks* on both sides.

02

Pull the keycap straight up

Pull with one hand straight up. With your other hand hold down the keyboard.

Pulling Switches

Did you get new switches? Grab the 'keycap & switch puller' that came with your keyboard. Don't be a fool, use the side of the tool that says 'switch'.

01

Grip the switch tabs

Carefully grip the north (top) and south (bottom) sides of the switch.

02

Squeeze and pull the switch

Gently squeeze and wiggle to detach both sides. Then pull to release from socket.

Pulling the PCBA

If you're using the friction fit pad start at step 1. If you've screw-mounted the module in a case, unscrew the screws before taking out the module.

01

Remove the required keycaps

Take off the spacebar and right-alt keycaps (use the right-spacebar if you're on a split layout).

02

Hook the PCBA puller tool

Then take the PCBA puller tool, hook it into the exposed hole.

03

Pull the module out

Gently pull the module out of its case.

Strap/no-strap mounts

Your Wooting 60HE v2 has a ‘strap mount piece’ installed by default, you can however swap out the basic strap mount piece and replace it with the ‘stainless steel’ option, or the no-strap option if you don’t like our beloved strap. Use a PH1 screwdriver to remove the screws from the inside of the case and then take the mount off.

Strap assembly

Let's make your Wooting 60HE v2 stand out. Assemble the Wooting strap onto the clip using the silicone attachment.

  1. Pull the silicone attachment through the clip hole located on the left top side of your 60HE v2 (by default).
  2. Fold the Wooting strap in half and align the screw holes. Then align the folded strap with one side of the silicone attachment's screw holes.
  3. Push the female (binding post) screw through the aligned holes, covering 3/4 layers. Add the last layer to the female screw and squeeze it together as a strap sandwich. Now you can screw and tighten the male screw.
  4. Repeat step 3 for the second binding post screw.

Bottom case dampening

Your Wooting 60HE v2 Aluminium Case has a silicone dampening layer inside by default, but we also added an EPDM foam layer. You can swap out the silicone for the EPDM foam, or leave the case empty, to change your keyboard's sound profile.

Silicone Block - The clackier and sharper option (pre-installed).

EPDM Foam - The slightly thockier, deeper option.

No case dampening - If you prefer to hear the resonance of your case.
