Job description

You are the product champion for a Wooting product. You own the product vision and keep it coherent from first concept to launch, so teams have a clear source of truth and decisions do not bottleneck on the CEO or head of product development.

In practice, you spend your week aligning stakeholders on priorities, resolving ambiguity, and keeping the product vision page, specs, and decision log up to date. You work closely with the technical project manager to keep timelines realistic and continuously aligned to development progress, risks, and dependencies.

You also keep commercial reality in focus throughout development. You validate that the target price fits the market and the Wooting brand, and you steer the cost structure to hit margin requirements, including bill of materials and non recurring tooling costs like jigs, molds, and fixtures. You surface cost or pricing risks early, so the team avoids late rework and stalled approvals.

At Wooting the Product Champion defines what gets built and why, the Technical Project Manager owns how and when.

What a typical day can look like

A rough idea emerges for a new Wooting product. You were assigned to do desk research to understand end-user needs, what already exists on the market, and realistic price points. You capture brief, to-the-point notes in Notion or FigJam. You will bring these findings into a brainstorm with key stakeholders. Your assumptions and understanding get tested. If the direction gets validated, you’ll form a new team and spearhead the product from there.

You shift from your desk research to an existing product in the making. An updated version of the UwU. It is a minor upgrade, but meaningful for its users. With a DVT run approaching and a late product change decided in the last briefing, you update the product vision, document the change, and align with the stakeholders impacted. This will impact the timeline, but it’s worth it for total product.

Your industrial designer colleague flags a conflict introduced by the change. You dig into the trade-off, troubleshoot options, and find a compromise that still follows the product vision, without needing to escalate it to the head of product development. You brief everyone in a slack message, to get everyone aligned and perhaps receive negative feedback that can help prevent issues down the line.

New quotations came in for the new tooling required to make the updated UwU, you are curious how it’ll impact the product variable cost and update the cost simulation with the projected product lifetime demand. It’s higher than anticipated, a price change might be needed, you decide to inquiry feedback. Will the user still be willing to pay this?

End of the day approaches, you prepare for the trip to China to oversee the approaching DVT assembly process. The plan is to put some of it in video recording to explain to customers waiting for their UwU why we decided to make the late product change. It’s best to do it at location, and you’ll be explaining while a colleagues will make the recording.
